They said goodbye and Carli walked over to the stairs which led up to the street level. Just as she reached the top, Duncan called, “Carli, wait.” Her heart gave a quick flutter. She turned and watched him stride dripping wet across the patio. Drops of water caught the sunlight and glinted on his bare bronzed chest. “I’ll be in the car,” Nick told her and went on out to the street. Duncan mounted the stairs and stopped two steps below her, his enigmatic dark eyes almost on a level with hers. “I need to ask you something.” “All right.” What did he want? To ask her out, she hoped, then remembered how she’d vowed to keep her distance from Mr. Sexy and Mysterious. |
