Interview with Axel Venrick from Forsaken Norse Wind, Forsaken series book 4 by Ciara Lake
May 26th, 2012 by Regina
  1. What about you is social? What do you like about people?

I am really not all that social.  I’m a troll and trolls by nature tend to be loners.  We do spend time with others when necessary.  Nevertheless, there’s a lot of misunderstanding about trolls.  We can be social if need be.  Some of us are more social then others.  We attract people to us, unlike what most believe.  One thing I want to set straight, we only appear ugly and or frightening when we want to. And we are clever creatures.  We have great powers of illusion making us seem undesirable. Otherwise, we are attractive and alluring people who can invite social interaction. Our appearance and intelligence is the biggest misconceptions humans have regarding trolls.  Thanks for listening I wanted to clear this up for the readers.

Over the centuries, I have improved in dealing with others socially. When I married Breanna, I started socializing with other immortals more frequently.  My lovely wife needed to be social as Breanna was raised human as a Forsaken, her heritage is vampire.  Therefore, she enjoys socializing.  However, she has adapted well to living a troll’s life. I do as much as I can to make her comfortable and happy.  She and our children’s happiness are most important to me.

The DuPont’s are human friends of ours.  You will meet them in Ciara Lake’s story about us.  At one point, we spent a lot of time with them.  My wife’s good friend was Celeste DuPont.  She now has passed to the afterlife along with her husband.  However, she and her husband were gifted with long and happy mortal lives.  This is the thing about being immortal and making friends with humans… they leave so soon.

Also, I enjoy conversing with the ice fey and some ice wizards.  There’s a group of Ice Fey living in Iceland near our home.  They’re fierce, loyal and beautiful people.   We see and socialize with them often.

I also, chat with Loki, the Norse god, frequently.  We have become great companions. I am very loyal to him and serve him well.   Regardless of his god status, he has befriended me and I appreciate his friendship immensely.  It’s true not many people trust him, he is the god of mischief, but we have a special connection and he loves my Breanna.

Also, we enjoy the company of the Mer.  They are very interesting people and Breanna and I love the sea.  The Aquila family, allowed us to honeymoon under the sea in one of their deluxe homes.  Jax Aquila is a fine example of a Merman.  He is the son of Poseidon making him extra special, a demigod.  Jax is a fair, honest, and he has passion for many things.  He is bold and brave, always interesting to talk with.  He is a mighty warrior with brains to match. He’s a man after my own heart.  I like him a lot. I hope he finds his heart’s love soon.

Now he is a lawyer somewhere in the 21st century.  I think Vancouver, Washington.  Occasionally we visit together.  Currently he is on a mission to find an important Forsaken to help with the conflict going on with the vampires and Amuliana, goddess of immortality.  Amuliana is a bitch.  She crashed our wedding.  She won’t be bothering me too much as Loki will kick her behind to the gates of Hell.  I digress, my apologies!

I hope this answers your question.

2. What one word best describes you?

This is a hard question for on who has lived so long.  It is hard to sum up myself as I have taken on many styles of life.  Each period of my life can be defined differently.  For now, I am passionate.  Yes, that’s my word, passionate.  I love my wife passionately, I love my children passionately, I love my work with jewelry and glass passionately, and I am a passionate lover.  J  I undertake all I do passionately.  Ask Breanna, she’ll tell you.

3. What was your family like?

If you are talking about my parents and my siblings… they are okay.  My Mother is a thorn in my side.  I love her, but she is a difficult and selfish creature.  That in itself is a long story.

I have so many siblings, some I hardly know.  My father is more of a recluse.  He has only visited our home once since Breanna and I have married.  He lives more of the stereotypical troll’s life, alone, under some bridge scaring people when it amuses him.  I feel sorry for him.  My Mother has not been a good mate to him and that is a full shame.

I do have some siblings who have gone off and done great things.  Some live pretending to be human.  I have one brother who is a trader on Wall Street and another who is a plastic surgeon.  In fact, he knows Jax well as they both live in Vancouver.

Trolls like to work with our hands and few of my siblings are artist.  I am a jeweler and I create beautiful glass art.

4.  Do you have a job? What is it? Do you like it? If no job, where does your money come from?

In the days past, I was a troll who watched my portals under bridges, often gaining my riches from those who wanted to pass over.  I seldom troll these bridges anymore.  I grew bored of that life.  Then I fought with the Vikings taking my riches as a conqueror. We accomplished great raids.  Those days are behind me.

Now, I make jewelry and glass art.  Happily, I am often commissioned to do work for the gods and other immortals. They pay very well making me a rich man.  I love to work with gems, precious metals and glass making beautiful designs.  I did a lot of work in Ejdeha Dragoni, one of the dragon realms.

Our home now is full of my artistic creations.  Breanna loves the things I make and it pleases me to please her.  Recently I have added gorgeous stained glass windows, which tell a story of my life with Breanna.

Additionally, Loki blesses me with riches for my excellent service to him.  And if I were to need something I could not provide he would help me.  For example, he helped me to find my love and mate, Breanna.  Ciara Lake tells the story in her book.

However, I really don’t need money as I can create mostly all I need with magic.

5.  What is the thing that has frightened you most? Do you think there is anything out there that's scarier than that? What do you think that would be?

When I made my finding ring, to find the love of my heart, for a moment, I was scared I would not find her.  I was frightened it would be too late for me, for her.  I never really shared this feeling before aloud, but now if I think of not finding her and what that would be like for me, my heart tightens as if a clamp has it in its hold.

At the time, I acted as if I could not care one way or another when Loki tossed the ring into the great sea sending it on its mission.  But, truly I was very anxious, words cannot even describe.

The next time of almost equal intensity was when I found Breanna at the hands of her abusive stepfather. The emotions that ran through me were fierce.  I feared for her. I feared I would lose my control and kill the man.  I could have made her fear me, or worse hate me.  I did not know what to expect at that time from her.  She was living as a human in an ignorant world, which was intolerable and naive.  But thank Loki, it all ended well.  To this day, my biggest fear is someone or something separating this joy, my wife, from me.  But let it be known, I would go to the gates of hell and enter to do what would be needed to return her to me.

I guess that’s all of your questions for today.  I had fun answering these.  I guess this was sort of being social of me to do this exercise.  LOL.

I want to thank Ciara Lake for writing our story.  Breanna and I both do.  Please pick up a copy when it comes out in November 19, 2012.  It’s being published by Beachwalk Press, find them at:  http://www.beachwalkpress.com
