Author Interview with Rachel Carrington…

Please welcome romantic suspense author Rachel Carrington today! 🙂

Q: What is your favorite genre to write and why that particular genre?

A: Suspense because I love the edginess of it as well as the twists and turns. It’s fun to see what my imagination comes up with.

Q: If you could change one thing about your writing career, what would it be and why would you change it?

A: I don’t know that I would change anything. I believe I am where I’m supposed to be at this moment.

Q: Out of all your female leads, who was your favorite to write and why?

A: Oh, tough one. Most of my heroines have a little bit of me in them. If they’re sarcastic, they have a lot of me in them. I’m going to go with Chloe from Waking Up Immortal as she is a fictional copy of me.

Q: How did you get your start as a writer?

A: When I was 16, I wrote a poem after someone I cared about died in an automobile accident. It didn’t take me too long to realize I wasn’t good at writing poetry, but I could write stories.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to a newbie author, what would it be?

A: Don’t let anyone else decide your journey. By that I mean don’t let a rejection make you quit, a bad review make you question your ability to write, or one person’s lack of faith change your belief in yourself.

Q: What is your favorite free book marketing tip?

A: Word of mouth. Talk to people about your books, and I don’t just mean online. I mean strike up conversations, get to know the people in your neighborhood, your doctors’ offices, and the service department where you get your oil changed. You might be surprised how many books you can sell just by talking.

Q: What is your favorite paid book marketing tip?

A: I love book videos. Granted, I’m biased because I create them, but I think, if done right, they’re impossible to miss and can draw someone in. And there are so many different ones you can use as well. Videos can be created to showcase your best reviews and your awards. A short video can be created to tease the bigger video. And the list goes on.

Q: What types of articles do you write for Movie Pilot?

A: I write news-breaking stories about the latest in television news for my favorite shows. I write opinions, theories, and lists, and I even delve into the nostalgic when I write about Charmed and Xena.

Q: What is your first young adult book about? When will it be available?

A: My first young adult book, Meeting Zach, is the hard lesson a teenager learns when her disobedience takes away her last chance to say goodbye. It’s with my agent right now being sent to publishers.

Q: Okay, here's a fun question, if you had to choose, which one would you choose, coffee or chocolate?

A: No question. Coffee.
